Land of Rocks and Boulders

Earlier this year, I watched “127 Hours”, a film about the mountain climber Aron Ralston, who became trapped by a boulder in Robbers Roost, Utah in April 2003. While watching the movie, I was really inspired to go exploring in the land of rocks and boulders. Although I’ve been to Las Vegas, Nevada four times already, I have missed one of the “seven wonders of the world”, the Grand Canyon, all FOUR TIMES! But I swear I will most definitely will go there on the next trip!

Doing some research regarding the Grand Canyon for iBeengo, I found out there are actually two parts to the Grand Canyon. Majority of the people are familiar with the South Rim , which is where all the tourists visit. However, there is also a North Rim, where I recommend all of you to visit.

What is the difference? Why North Rim is better?

- Less disturbance from other rowdy tourists

- North Rim is located higher up, giving a better view of the eroded and sloping walls, a magnificent view of the river below.

- The air is cooler and fresher, even during the hot Summer season of July-August.

If you want to enjoy the solitude and peace, there are also some sacrifices you have to make:

- North Rim is less accessible, you have to drive in personally. No bus, no train, no airplane.

- It is not open during the winter, the roads are closed. Only open from May through October

- Lack of luxury amenities, mainly campsite amenities.

- There are less places to look over the edge compared to the South Rim.

For those who do decide to visit the South Rim, one reminder, DO NOT GO ON THE SKYWALK. Many complained that they are not allowed to take pictures on the Skywalk, and it doesn't necessary provide a better view. Also, it is fairly expensive, not worth the money.
